Psychotherapy

Transactional Analysis (TA) is a theory that looks at a persons relationship with self and others. It's about how we internalise what we experience and use that to anticipate future experiences. The focus is on how we create patterns in relationships, experiences and behaviour in order to feel familiarity, even if it isn't good for us. Understanding our unique patterns and personality attributes enables us to work out what is and isn't working for us, utilise our strengths and redecide our future. Instrumental to this process is the concept of understanding what we've internalised that holds us back and relearning how to love and support ourselves through change.

Trauma Therapy

I use different approaches to working with Trauma, depending on what is most appropriate for the client. Sometimes working through your recollection of the Trauma is helpful, but more often than not it serves only to retraumatise a person. It is my role to carefully work out what is safe and to pace the therapy according to where the client is at that moment. I use Polyvagal Theory to assist in tempering work aiming to calm and reregulate the body so that Trauma symptoms reduce and potentially disappear. Guided visualisations, breathing exercise and  grounding work all have their place, but they are not always a part of early trauma healing. I also incorporate some seated trauma sensitive yoga movements where appropriate.
