Holly E Smith

I am a UKCP Psychotherapist (HIPC) and BACP Registered Counsellor. I work online with adults and in schools with children between the ages of 6 and 16. I have a great deal of knowledge and experience with building relationships, analysing behavioural patterns and empowering individuals.

I trained in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, which is a humanistic subtype of psychotherapy. What that means is that we are equals in the therapy space, we hold the same power and I will afford you respect and autonomy in your journey.

I'm proud to be a Psychotherapist. I have a passion for empowering autonomy, which enables you to find your voice and live your freedom.

Everyone has a truth, a reality and a story. We live them each day and part of what we do together will be co-creating your journey. I love the process of that creation, putting your life in the spotlight and refining your experiences with interpretation and meaning that enable you to live the life you want to going forward.

I'm offering you;

Understanding, Empowerment and Authenticity.

How I work.

I work exclusively online. Affording my clients the comfort of their own home and the autonomy to have counselling come to them, rather than having to make an extended journey out of their way. I request you have access to a private and quiet space so that we may conduct therapy and with that you will receive a confidential, safe and warm environment.

I use counselling to help you untangle what you're thinking, process what you're feeling and work out what comes next.

I use Psychotherapy to look at patterns in your life and how who you are now is interwoven with how you were brought up and the experiences that you've lived through.  All of this impacts what is happening to you in the present and sometimes understanding these connections can enable you to reprioritise, feel motivated for change or perhaps gain closure on past trauma.

I use therapeutic coaching to focus on your goals, your future and how you get where you'd like to be. This can be so much fun, deeply enlightening and very affirming. I hope we find ourselves here eventually.

I like to work with talking therapy, psychoeducation, guided meditations, grounding exercises and Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) techniques. - Our sessions will focus fully on restoring the balance between who you are in your mind and the body that you inhabit.

I offer counselling to adults, neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals, those from the LGBTQIA+ community, and teenagers comfortable and confident over the age of 16.  I am respectful of all cultures and ethnicities and welcome couples as well as individuals. I am sex positive and use the pronouns 'she/her'. I am supportive of the right for people to be fully accepted in society presenting as whatever gender they desire, if any.

It's important to me that you are given the opportunity to explore your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours and together we can process whatever comes with you into the therapy room.

Post Graduate Diploma (TA). (Middlesex Uniersity)

Experience

Working with Trauma

I hold a Certificate in Trauma Focused Therapy, and am very keen for clients to approach Trauma recovery at a pace that is healthy for them, rather than feeling pushed into retraumatising themselves through narrative recollection of their trauma. Trauma is held within the body and I utilise a dual approach, where we work to relax and find safety for the body and slowly work through what memories are necessary to be remembered and what can be processed independent of recollection.

Working with Grief and Bereavement

I have worked with Samaritans and Cruse and have personally experience complex grief. There is nothing that can take away from what you experience during these moments but I have worked extensively with clients to enable them to process their emotions and make meaning out of their experience, whilst remaining mindful of the toll it may take on their body.

Working with ADHD, Autism & AuDHD

I trained with Aspire Autism Consultancy on working therapeutically with clients with Autism and ADHD.  I have worked a great deal with people of all neurotypes, in school settings, prison settings and in private practice. I approach this from an empowered place, where focus in on how to manage burnout and how to work through communication difficulties. I don't look at 'symptoms or treatment'. A neurotype is not a deficit and everyone deserves to live in a society where they can be their best selves, celebrate who they are and thrive.

Working with Anxiety, Depression,
anger and fear.

Working with intense emotion can feel overwhelming and many clients seek to avoid this. It is my role to facilitate client emotional distress tolerance, foster understanding of triggers, identify moment of safety and calm, and assist with the re-regulation of the emotional brain and stress response.
